PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The
habitat Program is currently sponsored by the Salvation Army’s Community
& Residential Services division in the City of Thunder Bay as a Supportive Daily Living (SDL) program As an SDL program,
Habitat supports adult individuals with a variety of disabilities who are
designated ‘hard to serve’. Staff
offer support to these individuals by a variety of methods. These include: anger management, human sexuality, independent living,
communication, daily living skills (shopping, cooking), and other Life
Skills. There is also time for social
and recreation interaction. Habitat supports
individuals on a daily basis.
Sometimes that means solving an immediate need on a 1:1 basis or may
be advocating for other services which allows for the client to live to their
potential. |

for these Daily Living Supports is currently .825 FTE Social Service Worker
(33 hours per week). This position
is supported by a .3 FTE Administrative
Assistance (12 hours per week). |

The Lutheran
Community Care Centre since its establishment in 1979 has had a concern for the
housing situation of disadvantaged individuals in our community. Because of the holistic approach of the
agency, the housing environment was seen as a crucial part of the person’s
well-being and successful interaction with the community. Helping individuals find and maintain decent
and affordable housing has been a facet of several of the programs offered at
the Care Centre over the years.
As an initiative of the Care Centrem, the establishment of Lutheran Community Housing Corporation (LCHC) is 1988 brought this concern to a new level as a provider of housing. The Care Centre developed support services to enable the LCHC’s first building, a 30 unit building called Luther Court, to offer housing
